My vision of wild Africa is based on the three months I spent in Botswana, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. I was humbled by close encounters with some of the most majestic wildlife on the planet. The biggest impression left on me was the need to protect the region’s dwindling wildlife.
My visit coincided with the dry season which became a prolonged drought. This provided the opportunity to witness the rare sight of not just lions preying on elephants, but a leopard too. With traffic jams caused by large herds of elephants crossing the road, an element of danger is ever present in the African bush.
Despite the many challenges of photographing in Africa, not least from the wildlife and harsh environment, I learned a huge amount and believe the opportunity to photograph a wide range of species helped develop my creative vision and photographic style.
I also gained valuable experience photographing for clients operating safari tours and running a safari lodge.
