I’ve been photographing Smooth coated otter families in Singapore since 2012. After moving to a coastal area of Singapore in 2017, I have been documenting the social behaviour of one otter family on a regular basis. Sometimes finding them in the sea, sometimes at the mouth of the river on a beach, or in the mangrove or further upstream in the urban river and in ponds.
It’s a pleasure to share my experience photographing Smooth coated otters with local Singaporeans who have taken this animal to heart. You can tell when there are otters about by the small crowd of locals, both young and old, gathered at bridges to take videos with their smart phones.
I really enjoyed writing an article for Wildlife Photographic about the play behaviour of the smooth coated otter. Despite spending a lot of time studying these charismatic animals, I still feel like I have so much to learn about them.
